Among the mountain bike holidays one of the best and well-known rides is the Sardinia to La Costa Verde mountain bike holiday.
Isolated and scarcely populated, with spectacular mountains and long golden beaches, La Costa Verde is one of the excellent locations for a week long experience of mountain biking. In the midst of dazzling Mediterranean scenery, this particular ride speeds up through the twisting single tracks to the remote mountain passes, picturesque wooden trails and the coast, that stimulates and excites almost all the riders. Whatever be the level, riding through the rugged coastlines and isolated mining villages to fishing villages, it is surrounded with excellent scenery of emerald blue sea that keeps every rider motivated. As almost all the rides finish at the beach side, many riders get excited to pack their swimwear for a post ride bath.
For the first part of the week, the entire base nestles in the serene foothills of Sulcis Mountains which is located at the south west part of the island. This base is a family run farm called “Agriturismo” which produces organic vegetables, delicious & lip smacking home made pasta, cured meats and best quality wine. The ride begins from this base where the riders explore the set-up of the single tracks and superb trails which link to these old mining villages. This particular network has at present become one of the most precious mountain bike destinations of Sardinia. After a few days of thrilling journeying, all the riders return back to the Agriturismo base, which is in fact one of the best locations to experience traditional local wine and cuisine.
Later, moving to the coastal border line, the accommodation is a pleasant hotel as it is an ideal place for the second portion of the mountain bike holiday. From the hotels sun terrace, one can overlook the uninterrupted mountain chain and coastal views. There is no better place than the long golden sandy beach of Portixeddu as it is one of the best places to relax after a day’s ride in the saddle. In the midst of the riding journey, there are lots of wonderful single tracks that plunge through the Gutturu Pala Gorge. You will also travel through the never ending downhill’s from the Mount Linas and the wide collection of funny single tracks through the flourishing cork forests of Sulcis Mountains.
Resting day is quite flexible with several outstanding outdoor activities that range from sea kayaking and hiking in the nearby hills along the stunning coast of the Portixeddu beach or may be even a little more of road riding.
